The Wild Wild Western Australia

Western Australia is the proud home of one of the largest collections of wildflowers on Earth, as well as wildlife that can be found here and only here. Let us take you on a journey to explore beautiful WILD (flowers) beyond what we see in Gardens by the Bay and WILD (life) beyond the Singapore Zoo, only in WESTern Australia!


Wildflowers

Western Australia has more than 12,000 species of wildflowers, 60% which cannot be found anywhere else! One of the best ways to admire these species is by taking a guided tour. Here are some tips on where to visit for each blossom (which starts in June and ends in November).

Start from the north in Pilbara, Goldfields and along the coral coast during June, moving along to Mullewa for July and August for pink, white and yellow everlastings. For September, Kings Park in the heart of Perth City celebrates the diversity of Western Australia’s wildflowers! It is there where you can witness amazing colors and panoramas of the Perth city.

Between the months of August to November, the South West of Australia has more than 2,500 species of wildflower blooming! For Singaporeans, you would be interested to know that these include over 150 species of orchids, many of them which are rare and endangered. Western Australia is truly one of the best places to view wildflowers due to the longest seasons for them, with many tours available, the opportunities to see them in full bloom are endless!

Wildlife

Moving onto the adorable wildlife found in Western Australia from the charming wildflowers we’ve seen. Western Australia is also home to the unique Quokka, the world’s happiest animal! Quokkas are only found in Western Australia and the easiest and best way to spot them is on Rottnest Island. Taking photo with these cute and friendly quokkas have been an Instagram-worthy moment these few years.

When one thinks of Australian animals, Kangaroos and Koalas are definitely at the top of the list! Here in Western Australia, we see wild Kangaroos at places such as Lucky Bay, giving you a different experience in bumping into these adorable creatures from outside the fences of wildlife parks. Beside unique encounter with wild kangaroos, Lucky Bay is also Australia's whitest beach making it a hot spot for travellers. As for the furry Koalas, do remember to pay them a visit at Caversham Wildlife Park, Perth Zoo or Yanchep National Park and take that must-have souvenir photo!

In the seas of Western Australia, we’ll find the highly intelligent and friendly marine mammal, Dolphins! Western Australia is one of the world’s top destinations for great close encounters with Dolphins such as at Monkey Mia or Bunbury Dolphin Discovery Centre, so what better place is there than here to get this amazing experience?

Finally, we visit the magnificent giant of the sea, the Whales. These rare creatures have been sighted doing their astounding flips in the waters of Western Australia as they travel along the coast from May to December. Be sure to come by the site of the one of the largest whale watching seasons to spot these Humpback, Blue and Orca Whales!
