Did you know?
Izakaya, also known as a Japanese version of a restaurant bar first began in the Edo period (year 1603 - 1868). In the 1970s, these places were more reserved for the office workers to unwind themselves after a day at work. As more chains began to develop, many izakaya have remodelled themselves, revising their menus to offer more dishes. Today, visiting an izakaya is popular among all, from students to working adults for a gathering after a long day.
DAY 4
MORIOKA – LAKE TAZAWA – AKITA
We start off day 4 visiting Koiwai Farm, a privately-owned farm famous for its dairy products and delicacies before heading to Lake Tazawa!

Known to be the deepest lake in Japan with depth at 423m, Lake Tazawa is a famous viewing spot during autumn, with awe-inspiring views of brilliantly coloured leaves. Located at the end of the lake is a standing golden statue of a woman named Tatsuko. According to legend, Tatsuko was once a beautiful girl who prayed to retain her beauty forever but was instead cursed, turned into a dragon and eventually sunk to the bottom of Lake Tazawa.
We continue our journey to visit one of Tohoku’s hot viewing spots for cherry blossom and autumn leaves - the Samurai House located in Kakunodate before heading over to Neburi Nagashi Theatre to learn more about the history and traditions behind Akita City's famous Kanto Festival.
Warm yourself from the chilly night with a steaming pot of local Kiritanpo Stew - our personal favourite, must-try!
DAY 5
AKITA – YAMAGATA
Look forward to spending a full day in Yamagata, a prefecture located on Japan’s Honshu Island known for its mountains, hot springs and temples!
First up, starting off with Sankyo Soko! Sankyo Soko consists of a cluster of 12 former rice storehouses that are now home to museums, restaurants and local craft stores. The location may appear familiar to few as you may recall scenes from the highly popular drama ‘Oshin’ being shot here.
Hop on over to Somaro Maiko Teahouse next and be sure to catch the graceful movements and classical singing by the training apprentice geishas, also known as Maiko. Somaro’s design and architecture are said to be heavily inspired and influenced by the rich histories of Sakata & Kyoto. After which, we proceed to the Kamo Aquarium to see the world’s largest collection of stingray on display and finish off the night with an onsen experience at Tendo Onsen.
DAY 6
YAMAGATA – SENDAI – KINUGAWA
We continue our journey in Yamagata visiting the Yamadera (Risshaku-ji Temple), known to be built nearly more than 1000 years ago.

A 1,015-step hike through the mystical forest brings you to the summit of Yamadera, where you will be rewarded with great views of the Tohoku region. It is no surprise why Yamadera remains one of the top few hotspots that gathers photographers from all around the world.
Go on a shopping spree at Mitsui Outlet Park Sendai Port and take an evening stroll along Sendai Aoba-dori Avenue, also known as "City of Trees", while you can enjoy the remarkable sight of a beautiful tree-lined street. There is no greater way than to end off your night with yet another unique onsen experience at Kinugawa Onsen.
DAY 7
KINUGAWA – NIKKO – TOKYO – SINGAPORE

Make the best out of your final day while we visit the main highlight of our 8-day itinerary - Toshogu Shrine (東照宮).
A UNESCO World Heritage Site located in Nikkō, Tochigi Prefecture, Toshogu Shrine is known to be the final resting place of the most famous samurai leader Tokugawa leyasu that ruled Japan for over 250 years until 1868.

Notice the intricate details that went into constructing Nikko Toshogu Shrine. The buildings are decorated with vibrant colors and structures are covered with flamboyant carvings. The arrangement of the structures are not simply for design element sake, but to create and convey an expression of religious belief.

Later in the day, we head back to the busy capital of Japan, Tokyo to visit Shinjuku, a central ward in Tokyo for dining, entertainment and shopping. Finally, check off your bucket list while you make your way up the iconic Tokyo Tower (150m observatory) to witness magical views over the city.
